What an occasion! Not to take anything away from the Bride, but if ever there is pressure to look a million bucks, it’s as Mother of the Bride.
I know, I know, pressure is NOT what you need, but really?!?
Here are a few tips to follow, to make your choice easier.
1. Follow your daughter’s direction. Is there a theme for the wedding? A colour scheme? Choosing something that fits in with the theme or at least coordinating with it will make for an easier decision and more cohesion in the photographs.
2. Dress for the season, conditions and location. Is the ceremony outside in winter? Maybe on a clifftop overlooking the beach? Plan around cold or heat and even wind. This is a huge day for you - your baby girl is getting married! The last thing you want to be worried about is being too cold, or having to keep your light floaty dress from flashing your Spanx. So when choosing your outfit, bear these things in mind girls.
3. Respect the Dress Code. Be it Beach Attire or Black Tie, the dress code is the easiest guideline to follow to ensure your choice is appropriate.
4. Choose a flattering Silhouette. Maybe even take your daughter shopping with you and encourage and embrace her honesty. The most important thing on the day is that you look and feel comfortable and confident and the easiest way to do this is to choose an outfit that flatters your individual shape and figure. Accentuate the areas you’re proud of and downplay or disguise those spots that aren’t our favourites. After all, we all have them!
5. Try and opt for a timeless shape and fabric. We’ve all seen tragic pictures that date us. (You should see my 80’s Formal dress !!) You’ll want this amazing occasion to be captured on film, to be something that you’ll want to look back on for decades to come, without the cringe factor.
Trite as it may sound, the greatest thing you can wear is a smile. Grab a champagne, Celebrate and have a ball. Congratulations Ladies, I can’t wait till it’s my turn.
