I would like to consider myself to be as ‘woke’ as most of us 50-somethings are. I recycle, I’m aware of social injustice, I’m aware of my privilege and I know all about the horrors of ‘fast fashion’.
But what is becoming increasingly more obvious to all of us I think, is the shift that’s taking place in all areas of our lives. A shift towards sustainability.
Without getting too political and environmental of you all, (after all, this is a FASHION blog isn’t it?!?!), we can all see just where our world was headed; with overpopulation, pollution in the air and on the ground, excessive waste and the depletion of our natural resources... we were headed to bad places - and fast!
This shift, moves beyond fleeting fashion trends and embraces enduring responsibility.
We finally seem to have become increasingly aware of the environmental impact of our choices. It is here that the importance of sustainable fashion emerges as a guiding principle. For conscientious consumers, choosing eco-friendly fashion, is a deliberate act of mindfulness, acknowledging the interconnectedness of our choices with the health of our planet.
Fast fashions rapid cycles continue the negative spirals we are trying so desperately to reverse.
By opting for garments made from organic materials and supporting brands, like Adrift, committed to eco-conscious practices, we actively participate in the collective effort to reduce our ecological footprint.
Equally important is the emphasis on ethical production methods. The fashion industry has, at times, been known for exploitative labour practices and unsafe, working conditions. By prioritising ethically produced clothing, it ensures that the individuals involved in the manufacturing process are treated fairly with dignity and respect.
If this topic is of interest to you, please look at the SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY tab on our website, where you can see in greater detail, just how Adrift is going about being part of the solution rather than being part of the problem.
Just another reason why I’m so proud to be part of this team.
